Can you tell I'm excited? Today I ordered a brand spanking new Dell Inspiron 530. For those of you who are acquainted with the geeky arts, it has an Intel® Core™ 2 duo processor, 2GB dual channel DDR2 SDRAM and a 250GB Serial ATA hard drive. I don't know what any of this means, but Toast says it's good.

Congratulations! I love getting new computers. And I'll bet Firefox 3 is screaming fast on it too. :) So one question, why a desktop over a laptop? I'd love to have Toast and Tracy comments at the same time this fall on the Couch.
Yay! I tried to get Chris a new laptop for Father's Day, but he wouldn't let me. He's mean like that, thinking we ought to save money. :(

Now that you mention it, I don't know why I didn't get a laptop. Probably just because we already have one. Even though my new computer's going to be fast and beautiful and small, I'll probably be sitting on the couch in November thinking, "Damn, I should've gotten a laptop!" Eh, such is life. Maybe I can finagle Toast's work one. :)
Aside from the Couch, there's no reason we'd ever have two laptops going downstairs (or on the road, for that matter). The vast majority of the time we both want to do stuff on the computer we're up here in the office, so a desktop just makes sense.

Hmm, other than a small price savings, I don't see much upside anymore in standard desktops over laptops. Maybe if you have some sort of gaming machine. But even if you rarely move the laptop, you always have the option.
